When we first moved to Princeton last summer, I wondered how we would ever find a church that we wanted to join. But after six months, we really felt we could worship in any one of the three historic (200 years old!) Presbyterian churches we had attended. All three had good preaching and all three made us feel welcome. Two were smaller churches which appealed to us in some ways--we would get to know everyone as we had before. And those two had easy parking which also has its appeal in a town like Princeton!
Last week Sunday, after attending three Inquirers' classes, we stood in front of Nassau Presbyterian Church with about 20 others and responded to the first question together "Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior." Nassau Presbyterian Church is the largest one of the three and, in some ways at our age, we felt ready to belong to a large church where we did not feel a need to take up as many responsibilities.That being said, I have been singing in their wonderful church choir for two months now where I have felt very welcomed--and challenged! We joined a small group for Lent which will help us get to know some other people. So we are participating in more than Sunday morning services. We already had very good friends there--Jim and Cynthia Moorhead--whom we knew from our first days in Raleigh, North Carolina. And there are others affiliated with Princeton Seminary that we know. If we do end up at Stonebridge, a retirement community, there are buses that transport folks to the service. Parking is a challenge as we need to parallel park down Nassau Street several blocks from church--but that means we do get in a Sunday morning walk.
We are glad we made a decision and happily received many "Congragulations" on joining the church.
