Thursday afternoon we got an email from Eboni, our “leasing consultant” in the 1900 Building who takes care of us all. We were told that a water main broke and all of South Brunswick was under an advisory to boil water or use bottled water. We fortunately had bottled water in the apartment because Jim had been using it for the humidifier he uses when the furnace is running.
But it was hard to remember to not put one’s toothbrush under the tap water. Or to use hand sanitizer after “washing” one’s hands in tap water. I carefully washed our fruit and vegetables with bottled water. At least we were able to flush toilets and take showers although Jim was very careful not to get the contaminated water in his eyes.
At one point I emailed Eboni and said I thought she probably never thought her job description would be to advise about water, to scold about recyclables, to tell folks not to crash private parties. I said I was smiling at her emails and hoped she was still smiling. She responded that my email made her smile. Sometimes it seems like she has to be the mother for 220 families telling us to break down our boxes for recycling or not to crash private parties in the clubhouse or to move a car parked in a restricted space.
We were very glad when the warning was lifted and wash our hands with joy not needing to use the smelly hand sanitizer afterwards. It was reminder of how we take good water for granted.
